My Journey

I fell in love with the field of psychology during my senior year of high school.  I was able to take courses at my local university and decided to take Psychology 101.  What resonated with me most were the theories that helped to explain human behavior.  You see, I was the child who always asked "Why?"  Studying human behavior and the factors that contribute to and get in the way of healthy relationships fit right with my personality and area of passion. I have had the great privilege and honor to share in a number of clients' journeys.

My Style

My therapeutic style is characterized by warmth, empathy, humor, and a caring yet direct approach. I tailor therapeutic interactions to meet each client's needs. You will find me easy to talk to and fair minded. I can help you to understand what's working and not working in your relationships, to learn new skills for handling problems, and to rediscover your why.

My Areas of Specialty

I specialize in and have a passion for assessing and treating sexual, mental health, and relational concerns across the lifespan (childhood through adulthood). Specifically, I work with individuals and couples surrounding issues of relationship wellness, sexual health, and intimacy.

Because sexuality and gender are natural aspects of human development, a part of my clinical practice is dedicated to providing services to parents, children, and teens. I assist parents in learning to become the primary sexual educators for their children.  I also work with children and adolescents who have been sexually abused, who are exhibiting sexual behavior problems, who want to learn about healthy relationships, who are experiencing gender related difficulties, or who are attempting to manage questioning or sexual orientation issues.

I additionally specialize in working with individuals of all sexual orientations concerned about their compulsive and out of control sexual behavior (OCSB). Many of my clients enter therapy because difficulties controlling their sexual impulses or compulsions have negatively impacted their marriages, relationships, work, or other aspects of their lives.  The behaviors are generally recurrent, intense, distressing, and frequently are accompanied by anxiety, self-judgment,  a sense of hopelessness, embarrassment, and shame. Please note that I only work with individuals who engage in consensual sexual behaviors.  I refer individuals involved in non-consensual sexual behavior to local specialists. OCSB treatment is designed to assist clients in regaining control of their sexual behavior, creating a personal vision of sexual health, and strengthening their relationships. I offer individual, group, and couples therapy to clients struggling with OCSB.

What excites me most about my therapeutic work, is helping my clients create the kind of change that makes them happier, more fulfilled, sexually healthy, and their lives enriched.

My Typical Therapy Clients

Although many of my clients initially come to treatment in extreme distress, they are generally very invested in being successful in all aspects of their lives, including their romantic and interpersonal relationships. As a result, they tend to be open to self exploration and hold themselves accountable for their involvement and commitment to treatment. My clients are typically willing to emotionally, cognitively, and financially invest in the treatment process.  They also tend to value and seek out specialists with advanced training.

I sincerely invite you to contact me if you have questions or want to learn more about my service offerings. You are welcome to e-mail me directly or call my office at (678) 905-7862. I look forward to hearing from you and am here to help.
